Their love, however, is thwarted again when the Queen discovers their reunion and creates a river of stars, known as the Milky Way, to separate them. The annual celebration of Qi Qixi honors the resilience of their love, as the couple is allowed to meet only once a year on this special night, when magpies form a bridge with their bodies across the Milky Way.
